Core Concepts

Channels

In Esprsso, your news lives in "Channels." Channels are simply collections of news articles, blog posts, and other content organized by subject. They make it easy for you to get related news from a number of different sources and to get all the best feeds on any subject all at once. You can check out anyone else's channels, subscribe to them, or even make your own copies to customize as you please. We provide a few to get you started, but to get the most out of Esprsso you should definitely create your own.

Note: when you "customize" a channel that you subscribe to, you create your own copy of that channel. Any changes you make to it will not affect the original.

Feeds

Feeds deliver the latest content from your favorite websites straight to you. For example, a feed might deliver all the articles published on the New York Times' home page, just its style section, or even articles published by a single columnist. You can copy any feeds into any channel. If you see an interesting feed in someone else's Channel, just copy it into one of your own.

Items

Items can be news articles, blog posts, podcasts, or even videos from sites like YouTube. New items are continuously imported from all the sites you love right here into Esprsso, so your news is always up-to-date.

Forwards

Forwards are items that another user has forwarded to you by clicking the "Forward to Friends" link you'll see when viewing any item. Try it!

Favorites

Favorites are items that you've saved for future reference by clicking the "Save to Favorites" link you'll see when viewing any item. You can even add a little note to yourself while saving the item.

Rating

Esprsso saves you time and gives you buzz. By default, we show you Items that we think you're likely to find interesting at the top of the list of Items for any Channel, and leave the uninteresting stuff, the grind, at the bottom. The way we determine what is interesting or not is partially dependent on how you and your Neighbors rate each item: Weak or Strong. You can override this Rating by viewing Items sorted by Date or Source instead.

Friends

Friends are the people with whom you want to share news often and easily. The quickest way to invite someone to become your friend is to view their profile and click the "Add to Friends" button.

Neighbors

Neighbors are the people who we think have similar interests to you. We hope that by connecting you with your Neighbors, we can help you to discover interesting new stuff through them that makes your life that much better.
